News for May

Hey Everybody, sorry about the lack of updates from us as of late. we've been super busy as of late and regretfully the site has gone without much upkeep.

Well, here?s what?s new:

The x ONE WAY x LP(UCR012) has arrived and is selling like hot cakes(whatever that really means). Interpunk.com has become a really, really helpful site in selling the records for us? and through them we?re sold a LOT of these things and they?re going fast! The Record is forty, yeah: 40!, songs long. X ONE WAY x hails from New Jersey and are reminiscent of bands like Ensign, With Honor, Crime in Stereo, Good Clean Fun and the Procedure (which are among the bands they proudly rip off intentionally). The band is comprised of most of the members of the Procedure with the masterminds being singer Kev Sigman & guitar player Bill Henderson(who is also known for his work in Thursday & Purpose back in the day and his other current band Between the Wars). The band takes it?s lyrical cues from bands like GCF & Crucial Youth, that is to say the songs are about everything from how to defend yourself from zombie attacks, calling out people for being sellouts(this is a recurring theme through the record), eBay, dealing with the stagnant, boring , generic hardcore, etc?it?s a really fun record and to make it even cooler?we?ve included a copy of the LP on a CDr for FREE. No one was going to do the CD version so we decided to avoid that little problem and make it easier for everyone to listen to xONE WAYx whenever they wanted to! This is available through RevHQ.com & Interpunk.com

www.myspace.com/ukedge has copies of this for overseas orders.

Pressing Info:

first pressing:

10 test pressings

525 copies on black vinyl

My little pet project that I?ve been working on since the Government Music days has finally arrived: the World I Know: a Tribute to Pegboy Compilation! This CD is 24 songs of mostly Chicago bands paying tribute to one of Chicago?s finest bands. I feel really lucky and honored that through this compilation we get to work with some of my favorite bands or people from bands that have inspired me a lot over the years. Most notably getting to work with Vic Bondi from Articles of Faith, Alloy, Jones Very and his supreme new band Report Suspicious Activity, I got to meet Vic in February while on tour with the Bomb and RSA and he is as great a guy as you?d want him to be. His haunting version of Method is simply amazing and a fantastic way to open the CD.

Also having Matt Skiba record a song especially for this is truly thrilling. He did a remarkable job with Field of Darkness (even better than how I imagined he?d do it). Matt has gained a little bit of notoriety from his other band he?s been in for a few years called the Alkaline Trio. I spent many a night at Fireside, Metro and the Empty Bottle screaming along with that band and am really lucky to call Matt a friend.

I can?t go on and on about every band, ok I can, but I won?t? no one would read it all?and no one needs to hear me gush about getting to work with friends from High School and crying the first time I heard Deminer?s version of Walk on By via email mp3 (because they were the first band to pick their song and then 4+ years later finally hearing it).

It all boils down to the fact that I?ve known most of the people in these bands for a long time and have been fans of them for longer and this is one of those rare opportunities to get to put out a CD with 24 of your favorite bands?who represent not only all these current bands, their other current bands and a LOT of former bands that branch off back to the 70?s(Vic?s fault for going back that far?I was just going to say the 1980?s)?I truly love every song on this compilation?more than I can ever explain in words? And it?s all wrapped up in a package that is a giant group hug to the guys in Pegboy for a hit of the hat to them for all their hard work and time spent entertaining us in the audience?it feels good to give something back to them.

MUCH THANKS TO ALL THE BANDS FOR BEING SO PATIENT!

Also: if you have this in your hands, unfortunately and rather embarrassingly I must admit that song #20 is mislabeled as Witnessed where as it?s really Minutes to Hours. The Second Pressing will correct that I promise. Many apologies go out to Paul Degen & Colin for fucking that up. That 1000% is my fault?one of those obvious things wrong right in front of my face that I never caught. Ugh.

Here?s the track listing:
1. "Method" - Vic Bondi
2. "Strong Reaction" - Full
3. "Louisiana" - Rollo Tomasi
4. "Mr. Pink" - the Phenoms
5. "Superstar" - Munition
6. "Through My Fingers" - Haymarket Riot
7. "Walk on Bye" - Deminer
8. "Spaghetti Western" - Shot Baker
9. "Planet Porno" - Dreadnok Ripper
10. "Blister" - My Big Beautiful
11. "Locomotivelung" - the Matics
12. "Field of Darkness" - Matt Skiba
13. "Sinner Inside" - the Blonde Alibi
14. "Never A Question" - Bill Henderson (from x ONE WAY x)
15. "Time Again" - Break the Silence
16. "You" - the Invisibles
17. "Still Uneasy" - Nine Lives
18. "Dangermare" - the Littleman Complex
19. "My Youth" - Lynyrd's Innards
20. "Minutes to Hours" - Robotboot vs. What's Missing From Your Life?
21. "Fade Away" - Don't Worry About It
22. "You Fight Like a Little Girl" - the Dutchmen
23. "Hardlight" - Dead Town Revival
24. "Line Up" - the Story So Far

The other records in the works right now are:

(UCR009) the Shot Baker / Vacation Bible School Vindictives covers split.

The plates have beenm made and shipped to Musicol for pressing?still waiting to hear from them?but that shouldn?t be too long now? it?ll be limited to 500 copies. The color combo should be pretty awesome?hopefully it?ll come out good.

(UCR011) Mexican Cheerleader?s new EP ?Mexican Mystery Tour? Eight new rock songs that you?ll freak out over. Includes a Kinks cover as well? CD only.

(UCR013) J Church / Hirudin split 7? our second split for good ole J Church!! Woo hoo! Two songs from them and two from Hirudin (each band does a cover song and a original?the perfect combo for a 7? if you ask me). You may not know who Hirudin is right now, but you will soon enou

gh!!! Also limited to 500 copies.

(UCR014)the Few and the Proud ?the Beast? LP furious sXe hardcore from Chicago. If you?ve ever read Get in the Van by Henry Rollins, you know the part in the beginning when he tries out to sing for Black Flag and he mentions how the band kind of looks at each other, rears back and lurches forward and lays into the song?that?s the feeling I get listening/watching this band. I don?t throw around those heavy of comparisons and I definitely don?t think it?s completely unfounded. The CD version will be put out by Organized Crime. The first pressing will be limited to 500 copies as per usual?and the band has some crazy ideas for colored vinyl?

That is definitely enough for now.

Due to some technical difficulties, our web site has been ill-maintained, but there will be an update as soon as we sort it out.

OUT NOW: Fourth Rotor's latest album, "Plain"; Angel Eyes debut "Something to do with Death."

The J Church 7" is being pressed (quite possibly as I write this). Hopefully we'll see that out in the next few weeks. *fingers crossed*

Also out soon will be the Rollo Tomasi record, the Shot Baker/Vacation Bible School split 7" (Vindictives covers) and the long awaited Pegboy Tribute (hey, it'll still be out before a new Pegboy album ;p).

The radio show has been going great. We miss Justin's presence, but John and I are holding it down. We'd like to welcome Nick KC aboard the radio show as well. He's been a huge contributor to the show so far and we welcome him with open arms. We're going to start doing live performances again, so if you want to play, get in contact with us.

We have a Live Journal now. We'll be posting news, play lists, etc there as well, so bookmark that and if you're on Live Journal, add us to your friends list.

Even if I have to drive to Austin to deliver them myself. Coming up is the Angel Eyes album, the Rollo Tomasi album and a ton of other stuff. We're updating the splash page too, so stick around. ALSO, keep an eye out for a comp. we're going to be putting together in the near future. OK, that's it for now. Check back soon!

Look at me updating the web site twice in the same month! Man, I'm totally ontop of things. Either that or I'm making up for going months without updating. Anyway, the big news is that we're releasing the latest Rollo Tomasi record! Expect a late July/early August release date. Be sure to head over to the Empty Bottle July 31st for Rollo Tomasi and Camp Climax for Girls. 9:30pm, 8 bux, 21 and over. Yeah, we know age restrictive shows suck, but it's a bar. Go complain to Mayor Daley about it.

If you're into all ages shows, head over to All Ages Chicago and MP Shows. One last bit of news about the Pegboy tribute. Tracking is complete for Shot Baker's contribution. They're doing "Spaghetti Western" and it's insanely good.

That's it. See you in July, unless Against Me! or AVAIL or someone like that contacts us to do a limited run 7" or something.

So much awesomeness going on in the Underground Communique worldthat I honestly don't know where to start!

Before we get to band news, let's talk about the Chicago scene a little bit. Ever since the Fireside Bowl closed, there's been a huge hole in the all ages scene. It's been increasingly difficult for young bands to get shows and almost impossible to get an all local show together without worries of making rent at the end of the night. There've been some great people doing stuff locally like the PSC Collective, whove booked all ages shows at the Ice Factory, the Albion House, Buddy Space and other alt. venues. Also Chris Peditto down on the South Side who books shows at the Humility Gallery. These people have done a lot for Chicago and thanks to them for that. Up in UnderComm country (Edgewater and Rogers Park) a new venue recently opened a couple doors north of the Heartland Cafe called the Studio. The space is small, but it's expanding in the fall, which will make it amazing and not just because I can ride my bike to shows now either. Go to Rose Red Productions for more info.

Onto the UnderComm news!!

-First up, the Blonde Alibi full length will now be an EP and they're getting ready to start demoing tracks. This is personally my most anticipated release of the year... so far.

Mexican Cheerleader will have a new record in the can and ready for pressing soon, so expect some new stuff from MC in the near future. I have no idea what it's going to sound like, but going by their track record of consistently amazing releases, expect this one to tear you in half... twice.

Shot Baker is coming into Underground Communique Studios Friday night(Phenoms, Get it Away, Kill Your Idols and Modern Life is War have all recorded tracks there) to record their song for the Pegboy tribute record, which WE PROMISE will be out soon!!

-Speaking of the Pegboy Tribute Album, "The World I Know:A Tribute to Pegboy", we're waiting on tracks from two American bands and a late entry from Brazil's The Invisibles! Check these guys out. They're really awesome.

-While on the subject of long awaited releases, the J Church/Minority Blues Band split 7" is FINALLY going out to press. It took us a little longer than we'd planned, but there've been a few bumps in the road here and there, because this is the first chunk of vinyl we're putting out. Expect it to be gold vinyl. Fun stuff.

-Sweet Cobra will be going into the studio shortly to start recording their Riders of the Apocalypse tribute 7". Keep an eye out for that.

-Radio show news.... if you want to play the radio show, email Justin. If you want to send us stuff to play, send it here:

So I've finally gotten around to updating the news section here and I'm going to make a concious effort to actually make this a regular habbit.

We've got all sorts of exciting stuff to report.

-First off, we've picked up the Blonde Alibi and we'll be putting out their debut record.

-Next, we're going to co-release the My Big Beautiful album with Fudge Sickill records.

-Also, expect the Pegboy Tribute Album, "The World I Know" to come out sometime this summer (finally). We're waiting on a few more tracks and it'll be good to go!

-We'd like to welcome a couple people aboard the UnderComm team. First off, welcome our intern, Monika, who we have all sorts of shitty work lined for and John who's gonna be helping with street teaming and other free labor paid with records sort of business.

-In more geeky endeavours, we now have a myspace. Go check it out. Just look for Underground Communique.

This is the new website! Look around and let us know what you think! Aside from the new website, the biggest news is that we're releasing the new J Church split with the Minority Blues Band (Japan). Anyone who knows Chris, knows that J Church has been one of his biggest influences and consistently one of his favorite bands, so this is a big deal! Thanks to Lance and the guys for letting us do this for them!

In other news, Shot Baker is preparing themselves to do a little touring and head back into the studio to record a 7" that will be released on Underground Communiqu?! Good luck to them on the road. Check back here soon for tour dates and if they're in your town, be cool and buy them dinner. Expect to see either Justin or Chris on the road with them, so say hi to the merch guys.
